Project Info
As part of the development of the Roscommon Education Campus, announced in 2021, funding was allocated for additional facilities to be commissioned for Roscommon Community College, including the provision of two SEN units.
Following a five-month design and build project, in August 2023, Asset Accommodation completed the handover of the new, two-storey block, which includes SEN provision and teaching space.
Finished in striking anthracite grey, the modern addition to the Roscommon Community College campus adds much-needed additional space and facilities for the college’s vibrant and growing school population.
In delivering the nearly zero-energy building (NZEB), a sensory garden, complete with soft play surfaces, was also designed and delivered by Asset Accommodation.
The 840 sqm classroom block was manufactured offsite, with the majority of site works taking place over the summer months to minimise disruption during the pupil’s academic year.

Siteworks:
The new modular building was installed at the rear of the main school building. The main body of the on-site works was delivered during the summer holidays to minimise the impact on the school community. There was significant trenching and ducting required to connect electrical cable and IT services back to the existing school and these works were sequenced and carried out during school break with no disruption to the school.
A large pumping chamber was installed to pump foul drainage from the new building to the mains sewer which was situated approximately 100 metres away, and a SEN garden was delivered to the rear of the project, which overlooks a greenfield, tree-lined space, that’s adjacent to the school site.
Internally, a hoist and assisted bench furniture were installed within the SEN space as stipulated in the terms of the project.
